As a Reiki Master Teacher, one of my greatest joys is passing on the knowledge of this energetic practice to others. Many people learn the practice so that they can perform energetic healing on themselves, family members, friends, pets, plants, and any earthly object. Everything is made up of energetic structures that respond to the restorative energy of Reiki, and anyone can learn how to bring forth this energy.
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced “ray key”) is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese practices. The word comes from the Japanese words Rei which means “Universal Life” and Ki which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not a massage technique, nor is it based on belief or suggestion; instead, it is a subtle, effective form of energy work using Spiritually-Guided Life Force Energy.
A Japanese Buddhist, Mikao Usui, is credited with rediscovering the root system of energetic healing now called Reiki. His tradition and methods were passed through several grand masters of Reiki. Today Reiki takes many forms, but the Usui System of Natural Healing is still the form most widely practiced. Practitioners and Master Teachers are trained through an “attunement” process where a Reiki Master Teacher conveys energies and knowledge to students.
How Does Reiki Work?
Simply stated, Reiki is energy generated by the Universe that is transmitted through a conductor (a Reiki practitioner), and directed into something to restore, recharge, or heal that thing.
In our 3-D world, electrical energy is generated at a power station, transmitted through copper conductors (wires), and directed into your house to operate lights and appliances. The analogy is slightly inelegant, but it gives you a good idea of the process. Of course, there are things about the Reiki process that those of us living in the 3-D realm cannot fully grasp, but we are able to use this Reiki energy nonetheless, thanks to the instruction of Mikao Usui and those that have succeeded him.
Reiki energy is restorative; that is, the function of Reiki energy is to restore something to its intended use; to balance chakras, to bring harmony to a situation or thing. And because the most common result of this kind of restoration is referred to as healing, that’s how Reiki is primarily known, and that’s how we’ll talk about it here.
Using Reiki comes from the heart not the head, so the practitioner is admonished to give up trying to understand it with 3-D technologies.
Why Learn to Practice Reiki?
After experiencing the restorative and healing effects of the practice, some people want to take on learning how to become a practitioner so that they may perform the practice on themselves, friends, family members, pets, and even inanimate objects. It’s especially useful to be able to use the practice from anywhere at any time of the day or night as needed. Some even take the training to the highest level so that they themselves become a Reiki master and continue to pass on the knowledge to others.
Reiki is restorative; that is, it restores things to their proper function. When we restore human bodily functions, for example, we call it “healing”. In some cases, the restorative effects are bold and obvious, such as diminishing the effects of digestive problems, and in other cases it’s more subtle, such as restoring Chakra balance to allow for clearer thinking and better decision making.
As the world becomes more and more connected and awakens to life-force energy, the use of this practice is growing exponentially. You can learn the practice to the level of your choosing, including becoming a Reiki Master Teacher. The process to achieving any level is straightforward, and you will be guided along the way at any pace that you choose.
What is the Reiki Lineage?
The Reiki lineage begins with Mikao Usui and extends to thousands of Reiki practitioners around the world. Throughout its existence, the practice has been handed down from Master Teacher to students through a process called attunement. Attunement is an energetic process where certain Reiki symbols are conveyed energetically from the teacher to the student. There are many variations on the mechanics of how this is performed.
Beth delivers attunements in a live small-group class setting so that each student is individually honored and that the specific energies called for are adjusted and conveyed for that person. Students that receive an attunement in this way receive the full power of the Reiki symbol(s) for each level (degree), tailored to that person’s quantum energy field.
What is the Learning Process for Reiki?
The process of Reiki practitioner development is straightforward. No special intellectual capacity, spiritual depth, or ability to meditate is necessary. Reiki is a natural and pure form of healing that does not depend on your talents or acquired abilities. For this reason, anyone can learn and practice Reiki.
The Reiki techniques are not taught as a classical learning process; instead, they are transferred to a student from the Reiki Master Teacher during an attunement. The attunement opens the crown, heart, and palm chakras to create a special connection between the student and the source of Reiki energy. The attunement is a powerful spiritual experience whereby energies are channeled into the student through the Master Teacher.
This process is highly variable and adjusted to meet the needs of the individual student. The Reiki Master Teacher will meet the student where they are, taking into account what is occurring in their lives and how their energetic field is radiating. Many people have mystical experiences during the process, including hearing personal messages, visions, healing, and even reviewing past life experiences.
What Happens After an Attunement?
Once you have received an attunement, you have Reiki at that attunement level for the remainder of your life. It does not dissipate or lessen in power. All that is required is one attunement at each level of Reiki (there are three), and it has been found that additional attunements at a given level deepen the value of that level. Some of the benefits reported are a refinement of the energy being channeled, increased strength of the energy, healing of personal problems, clarity, increased spiritual sensitivity, and a higher level of consciousness.
Beth does not charge a fee for anyone wishing to review a level that she taught that person. There is a minimal reviewer fee to cover the costs of hosting.
How Do I Prepare For an Attunement?
An attunement can start a physical and emotional cleansing process that will help clear toxins stored in the body. You may experience a physical release of these toxins through normal bodily processes, and an emotional release of thoughts and feelings that no longer serve you. Everyone is different, and you should not expect any particular thing to occur during your attunement.
There is no “right way” to get ready for an attunement. Worldwide Reiki associations have developed some guidelines that, through their experience with hundreds of students, seem to enhance a student’s ability to receive the attunement. We list these here purely as “Reiki Community Guidelines” for attunement preparation, and recommend that you follow whatever guidelines do not create a hardship for you.
- Refrain from eating meat, fowl or fish three days prior to the attunement. These foods often contain drugs in the form of penicillin and female hormones and toxins in the form of pesticides and heavy metals that make your system sluggish and throw it out of balance.
- Consider a water or juice fast for one to three days before the attunement, especially if you are already a vegetarian or have experience with fasting.
- Minimize your use of coffee and caffeine drinks, or stop completely, especially on the day of the attunement. Caffeine creates imbalances in the nervous and endocrine systems.
- Do not consume alcohol for at least three days prior to the attunement.
- Minimize or stop consuming sweets. Eat no chocolate on the day of attunement.
- If you smoke, cut back, and smoke as little as possible on the day of the attunement.
- Meditate an hour a day for a least a week prior to the attunement using a style you are familiar with, or simply spend this time in reflective silence.
- Reduce or eliminate time watching TV, listening to the radio, and reading newspapers and online news sources. Spiritual and meditative programs are OK.
- Go for quiet walks, spend time with nature, and get moderate exercise.
- Give more attention to the subtle impressions and sensations within and around you; contemplate their significance.
- Release all anger, fear, jealousy, hate, worry, and other debilitating emotions up to the light. Create an honoring and sacred space within and around you.
By receiving an attunement, you become part of a community using Reiki to restore and heal themselves and others, and who are working together to heal the Earth. You will also be receiving help from Reiki guides and other spiritual beings who are working towards these goals as well.
Attunement for Reiki Level 1
The first degree of Reiki is your portal into the world and community of this ancient healing practice. You will learn about the origins of Reiki and how it works. You will receive a printed student workbook and reference guide that lists the tenets of Reiki, details the human anatomy of interest to the practice, shows all of the hand positions that you will use, explains the chakras and shows their locations, and depicts the human aura and how it relates to the chakras.
The course runs approximately 8 hours during a single day, including a lunch break. The exact amount of time will vary depending on how many students are in the class because there are live practice sessions. On completion (you must be present and in full participation from the start through completion), you will receive a Certificate of Completion for Reiki First Degree signed by your Reiki Master Teacher, Beth, and embossed with her professional seal.
Prerequisites: Being a human desiring to take on this work.
What Can You Do with Reiki Level 1?
Even though this is a basic, entry-level attunement, there is a lot that you can do as a result of having it, including…
Healing of Self and Others
You are now equipped to perform self-healing on yourself and healing on others. During the class, you will have learned the specific processes and techniques necessary to perform the healing practice.
Healing of Pets and Other Animals
Using similar techniques as you would for humans, you are able to convey a healing energy into pets and other animals.
Cleansing Your Environment
Similar to the practice of Feng Shui, you can clear your spaces of bad energy that may have been left by others or a disharmonious interaction with someone.
Energize and Cleanse Food and Drink
Not unlike the practice of blessing food in some religious practices, you can impart good and powerful energy into things that you will consume to cleanse or neutralize energetic or physical impurities.
Clear Bad Energy from Materials
Using your newfound powers, you can flush out toxic energies from any physical object that you could imagine, such as your car, a chair, your dining table – anything.
Attunement for Reiki Level 2
The second degree of Reiki throws the door wide open on an expanded practice of Reiki. During this class, we’ll have a brief review of the principles of Reiki 1, and then jump right off into the processes for Reiki 2. For this level, you are given access to three special symbols and their related mantras. The three symbols enhance and increase the energy and, consequently, the healing power of the practice.
Of particular note is the expanded ability to practice distance healing using the third symbol. With distance healing, the subject of your healing need not be in the same room with you or, for that matter, in the same city, state, or country. In a special case of distance healing, you can perform healing on people or objects that exist on different timelines. You will receive a student manual discussing the symbols, how they are used, and their corresponding mantras.
The course runs approximately 8 hours during a single day, including a lunch break. The exact amount of time will vary depending on how many students are in the class because there are live practice sessions. On completion (you must be present and in full participation from the start through completion), you will receive a Certificate of Completion for Reiki Second Degree signed by your Reiki Master Teacher, Beth, and embossed with her professional seal.
Prerequisites: Reiki Level 1 and a desire to deepen and expand your Reiki practice.
What Can You Do with Reiki Level 2?
Representing a very large step up in your Reiki practice abilities, operating in the realm of Level 2 gives you new access, including…
Everything From Reiki Level 1
You bring forward everything that you received and were taught in the first degree of Reiki, which is foundational to this level of Reiki.
Perhaps the largest draw to achieving the second degree of Reiki, you can now project your healing powers to distant people, animals, and things with the assistance of the third Reiki Symbol.
A feature of distance healing, you can project your healing powers to other points on the space-time continuum. Since it is generally known that time is really a special projection of distance, this is just a special case of distance healing.
Amped-Up Healing Energy
Using the first symbol and its related mantra, you can either shorten the amount of time necessary to perform a healing, or you can increase the amount of healing in the same amount of time.
Bring Forth Peace and Harmony
With the assistance of the second symbol and its mantra, you can bring healing to more complex situations where balance and harmony are called for. This symbol gives access to a deeper level of healing.
Attunement for Reiki Level 3
In a divergence from the path carved by Levels 1 and 2, the Third Degree of Reiki is not about new or enhanced techniques or mechanics. Instead, it is a shift from having Reiki be something you do to something you are.
In plain-speak, Level 3 is about mastery; taking on Reiki as a way of being, a way of life, an embodiment of your whole mind, body, and soul into the practice.
We define a master as someone who can ply his or her craft with little or no effort. Watching a true master at work, no matter what the work, is a thing of beauty. The master is precise, confident, bold, and exceptionally effective. Frequently called “super-human”, the master is so skilled at the process that it is truly a part of who he or she is. A Reiki Master is so adept at what he or she knows and does that he or she is well-positioned to teach the practice if he or she so chooses.
As part of the Third Degree, you will be given the fourth Reiki symbol; a symbol to be used only by the Reiki Master. It is a universal and singularly powerful healing symbol that affects chakras and auras on a more subtle and much deeper level than any other symbol.
The course runs approximately 8 hours during a single day, including a lunch break. The exact amount of time will vary depending on how many students are in the class because there are live practice sessions. On completion (you must be present and in full participation from the start through completion), you will receive a Certificate of Completion for Reiki Third Degree signed by your Reiki Master Teacher, Beth, and embossed with her professional seal.
Prerequisites: Reiki Level 2 and a desire to deepen and expand your Reiki practice.
What Can You Do with Reiki Level 3?
As a Reiki Master, you are confident, boldly powerful, and can now act in the capacity of a teacher, if you so desire. This level includes…
Exceptionally Deep and Powerful Healing
Wielding the Reiki Master Symbol, you are empowered to heal exceptionally difficult or larger challenges. The Reiki Master can affect the chakras and aura in subtle ways not available at the other levels.
Conveyance of the Practice
The Reiki Master can declare his or her intention to be a Teacher of the practice and, with preparation, can develop classes to teach the ancient healing art of Reiki.
Becoming a Master Teacher
While the third degree of Reiki represents the highest energetic tier of the practice, some people may choose to become a teacher of the practice, with the ability to convey it to others, and creating new Reiki practitioners. So that we can maximize attention to developing the third degree power, and because many people may not desire to become a teacher, we split the learning and the mechanics of the teacher process into another class.
The Master Teacher level does not represent another Reiki degree; instead, it represents training on how to convey the energy and symbols to others who have chosen the journey of becoming a Reiki practitioner. In this class, you will be given a teacher’s manual and instruction on processes, techniques, materials, and other factors important to the teacher/training process.
The course runs approximately 6 hours during a single day, including a lunch break. The exact amount of time will vary depending on how many students are in the class because there are live practice sessions. On completion (you must be present and in full participation from the start through completion), you will receive a Certificate of Completion for Reiki Master Teacher signed by your Reiki Master Teacher, Beth, and embossed with her professional seal.
Prerequisites: Reiki Level 3 and a desire to teach others how to become practitioners.
What Can You Do As a Master Teacher?
As a Reiki Master Teacher, you are positioned and well-equipped to convey the practice of Reiki to others desiring to become practitioners. This includes…
Designing and Creating Classes
Using the teacher resources given to you in this class, you will be able to design and create classes that you will teach in the practice of Reiki according to, and in line with, the teachings of MIkao Usui.
Reiki In Your Business
Many practitioners of Reiki use this healing art in their business. If you are considering doing so, but you have not yet created a business, we can help. We can help you understand how to set up your business, mandatory and optional items, and even how to establish your online presence
